Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer
in Biloxi.
BILOXI - Dr. Laurence Michael Oden, 82, died Saturday, Dec. 9,
2000, in Gulfport. Dr. Oden was a native of Birmingham, Ala., a
former resident of New Orleans, and a longtime resident of Biloxi.
He was organist and choir director at the Episcopal Church of the
Redeemer for more than 40 years and was a former member of the
Vestry. He was the founder of the Gulf Coast Opera Theatre. He
was a former president of the local chapter and of the state society
of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He received bachelor's
and master's degrees from Louisiana State University School of
Music, a Ph.D. in liturgical music from Manhattan College in Manhattanville,
N. Y., and studied at the Julliard School in New York City. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham Kirk
Oden. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Legrand J. "Mary" Audioun.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church
of the Redeemer where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service
time. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. Riemann Funeral
Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, is in charge of arrangements.
The family prefers memorials to the Choir Fund of the Church of
the Redeemer, the Gulf Coast Opera Theatre or a charity of one's
choice.
